It’s clear the movie will succeed at paying tribute to the past, but what’s not clear is how it will establish a new legacy of its own. But what remains to be seen is how Ghostbusters: Afterlife will in fact advance the Ghostbusters brand. The new movie’s younger characters literally inheriting the Ecto-1 and fixing it up is actually a nice metaphor for how the younger Reitman is now inheriting his father’s franchise and trying to also spruce it up and make it shiny for a new generation. So if there’s going to be a new Ghostbusters movie that deals with the legacy of the original crew, the Ecto-1 certainly has to be involved. The Ecto-1 is of course one of the most iconic vehicles in movie history. The above video shows the famous vehicle looking very much in need of a wash after being hidden away for years. As has already been seen in trailers, the Ecto-1 finds itself being spruced up and put back into action, with some new additions. ![]() As Afterlife begins, the Ecto-1 has been stashed in an old barn under a tarp for decades when it’s rediscovered by the daughter and grandchildren of Spengler. If the film is half as fun as the trailer and has as much Ecto 1 as it seems to, then we should all be in for a good romp.ĭon’t forget Never cross your streams. The Ecto-1 first appears in the original Ghostbusters when the new ghostbusting team purchases a hearse that they soon outfit to become their official transportation. The lucky finder is found by none other than his grandson, played by Finn Wolfhard of Stranger Things fame.Īlthough we should probably expect a montage of the kids getting the vintage Cadillac running again, they clearly get the hearse going. The new Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer shows the new batch of Ghostbusters finding the iconic car on, Egon Spengler’s Oklahoma farm. If you compare that to opening an old farm building to find the Ecto 1 as a barn find, the Ferrari might as well be day-old bread. Finding an abandoned Ferrari or some such would be pretty damn exciting. Ecto 1 is the coolest barn find of all timeīarn finds are the most exciting thing within the vintage car world. While the vintage Cadillac hearse stuck around for the subsequent films, it was strangely missing in the 2016 film starring Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Kristen Wiig. This vintage Cadillac was how the Ghostbusters scooted around NYC with its signature whining siren. Ecto 1 was a run-down, busted, old Cadillac ambulance that the original crew turned into the ectomobile. As Car and Driver notes, the Ghostbusters’ ride is the 1959 Cadillac Futura Duplex with an ambulance/hearse conversion from the first Ghostbusters film.
